This Person Does Not Exist is a website that shows a new, fully generated face on every visit, made with StyleGAN, an Nvidia research model from 2019. Faces like these are common on fake accounts, review profiles and scam personas.

Also known as: StyleGAN, GAN face, AI-generated profile photo.

• It only makes faces: one head and shoulders, centred in a square. Nothing else in the frame is meant to make sense.
• These faces are older technology. Today's generators make far more convincing people, so a face that passes the checks below can still be AI.

Signs of a StyleGAN face

• Eyes in almost exactly the same spot, image after image. The model learned from aligned photos, so the eyes sit at the same height near the centre.
• A background that melts into blurry, abstract shapes.
• Earrings that don't match, glasses with uneven frames, odd ears, or hair that blends into the background.
• Smeared teeth or a blurry edge where the face meets the background.

Checking a profile photo

Run a reverse image search, and if it matters, ask for a new photo or a quick video call. A face flagged as AI means the photo was likely generated, not that the account owner did anything wrong: plenty of people use AI avatars.

Getting a good check

• Find the largest, earliest copy of the image you can. A reverse image search often turns it up.
• Check the original file rather than a screenshot of it. Very small or heavily compressed images are refused rather than guessed at.
• If there’s a face, a clear one that isn’t tiny in the frame gives the face analysis the most to work with.
