About Flux

Flux is a family of AI image generators from Black Forest Labs, released in 2024 and available through many apps and APIs, as well as open-weight versions people run themselves. It's known for photorealistic people and legible text, and the Kontext versions edit existing photos.

  • Because open versions of Flux can be run and fine-tuned by anyone, Flux images come from many different setups, not one app.
  • Flux Kontext edits real photos rather than making new ones. The AI edited photo detector page covers that case.

Where it can miss

  • New versions of Flux can look different from older ones, and detectors can take time to catch up.
  • Heavy edits, upscaling or filters after the image was made can hide the traces detectors look for.
  • Screenshots and re-shared copies add compression. Very small or heavily compressed images are refused rather than guessed at.

Getting a good check

  • Find the largest, earliest copy of the image you can. A reverse image search often turns it up.
  • Check the original file rather than a screenshot of it.
  • If there’s a face, make sure it’s at least 64 pixels across so the face analysis can run.
