About Grok
Grok is xAI's assistant, built into X. It makes and edits images on request, using xAI's own image models, and many of its pictures are posted straight to X.
- Images saved from X are recompressed. Find the largest copy you can, or the original post, before checking.
- Grok is often asked to edit photos of real people, so the face analysis matters as much as the whole-image analysis.
Where it can miss
- New versions of Grok can look different from older ones, and detectors can take time to catch up.
- Heavy edits, upscaling or filters after the image was made can hide the traces detectors look for.
- Screenshots and re-shared copies add compression. Very small or heavily compressed images are refused rather than guessed at.
Getting a good check
- Find the largest, earliest copy of the image you can. A reverse image search often turns it up.
- Check the original file rather than a screenshot of it.
- If there’s a face, make sure it’s at least 64 pixels across so the face analysis can run.
